February 3, 2025 – Canadian hyperspectral imaging startup Wyvern has publicly provided free high-resolution Earth-observation photos. Through its Open Data Program, the company made available 25 photos of forests, wildfires, crops, coastal bathymetry, open-pit mining, solar farms, and oil and gas wells around the world.
“This initiative encourages innovation by allowing the community to develop new use cases and analyze data in geospatial hackathons,” stated Wyvern co-founder Callie Lissinna. She emphasized that hyperspectral satellite data has rarely been widely available, thus this release is essential for humanitarian aid and disaster relief activities.
Wyvern’s three Dragonette cubesats capture imagery at 5.3 meters per pixel, with spectral bands ranging from 23 to 31. The company plans to launch a fourth satellite in early 2025 and will also collect data from hyperspectral sensors on Loft Orbital satellites, set to launch starting in March 2025.

Chief Product Officer Adam O’Connor highlighted Wyvern’s commitment to supporting disaster relief efforts and global problem-solving through free access to high-quality imagery. Inspired by the open-data approach of companies like Umbra, Wyvern is licensing the datasets for commercial use, fostering collaboration across the geospatial community.
