Instagram Is Testing A Dislike Button For Comments On Some Devices

Share

Some users noticed a button that allows them to downrate or dislike comments on their devices. The social media platform officially announced that it is testing a way that users can show that they are not interested or don’t agree with the view in the comment.

Once approved the feature will be available for both feed and reel comments.

Considering privacy, Instagram head Adam Mosseri in a post on the thread, announced that the feature will not show the dislike count and no one will know who dislikes the comments. The feature will eventually help the platform rank the comments.

The thread posted by Mosseri states “Some of you must have noticed a dislike button next to the comments on Instagram. This is your private option to signal that you disagree or don’t feel good about a particular comment. Remember, that this is a test, with no dislike count, and no one will know if you hit the button. However, in the future, we plan to integrate this button to rank the disliked comments down below. We hope that this might help the comments become more friendly on the platform.”

The news first came to life when app sleuth Alessander Paluzzi said the social media platform is planning to test this feature and now in February 2025 the platform has made it official.

According to the social media giant Meta, this feature is the company’s effort towards enhancing user experience in the comment section.

Find the downgrade button on Instagram new? Well!! Reddit has had a downrate button for years now. The platform also uses these downvotes and upvotes for ranking the comments. While Instagram is also moving in a similar direction it is too early to say that the photo-sharing platform will give as much weight to the ratings as Reddit does.
