Open AI API will now require verification to access the advanced development features, as per the support page published on its site.
According to the support page, the new ID verification, Verified organizations, will be the new way for developers to unlock advanced features and capabilities on the platform. The platform aims to ensure AI accountability, Verified Organizations will help ensure that AI is widely accessible and used safely. The page reads as, “Unfortunately, a small number of developers intentionally use OpenAI’s API in violation of the platform’s policy. Therefore, the company is introducing the verification process so that it can continue to offer advanced models to the broader developer community without worrying about breaches.
This new process is another side of the company’s efforts to detect and mitigate unauthorized use of its models, including from groups from North Korea, as reported in several published papers by the company.
Moreover, this Verification process will also enable the company to mitigate any data extraction or IP theft, considering the company was investigating a large data exfiltration from groups linked to Deepseek through its API, possibly to train its AI model, in violation of OpenAI’s terms of use.
How to Get a Verified Organization Status
The user will need a government-issued ID from the countries supported by OpenAI’s API model to register as a Verified Organization. One ID can only be used to verify a single account every 90 days, moreover, not all organizations will be eligible for verification, making the security measures stronger.
