The Islamic New Year 2024, also known as Hijri New Year 2024, marks the beginning of a new year in the Islamic calendar. The Islamic New Year starts with the first of Muharram, which is one of the most sacred months in the calendar.

Islamic New Year 2024

In 2024, the Islamic New Year falls on July 8, as observed by the sighting of the moon. This month allows Muslims to reflect on their previous actions, beg forgiveness, and set fresh resolutions for the next year. Muslims all over the world honor this new beginning with prayers, reflections, and acts of charity.

Islamic New Year Calendar

The Islamic calendar is based on the lunar cycle, and its years are denoted by the abbreviation “AH” (After Hijri). The first year of the Islamic calendar began in 622 CE, marking the year when the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) migrated from Mecca to Medina with his companions. This migration, known as the Hijra, is the main turning point in Islamic history and is considered the beginning of the Islamic New Year calendar.

Significance of Islamic Year

As Muslims celebrate the Islamic New Year, they are reminded of the value of self-reflection, forgiveness, and spiritual progress. It is time to ask Allah’s mercy, and forgiveness, as well as to renew their devotion to their faith. Many Muslims spend the day praying, reciting Quranic verses, and seeking Allah’s blessings. Muslims are encouraged to fast during this month, especially on the 10th day of Muharram, known as Ashura, which marks the day when Prophet Moses (peace be upon him) was saved from the Pharaoh, more importantly, Muslims also remember the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) during this time.
