When is Eid ul Adha 2024? What is Hajj Moon Sighting?

Share

The excited spirit of Eid al-Adha is already accelerating around the world and with good reason too. While the official dates are yet to be announced, excitement for the much-anticipated event is growing, with everyone wondering when is Eid ul Adha 2024.

2024 Eid Ul-Adha Date According to Islamic Calendar

Eid al-Adha is celebrated according to the Islamic lunar calendar, with the full moon sighting in the month of Dhul Hijjah. This moon sighting is a critical practice in Islam. Local authorities and religious organizations check the western skies just after sunset in the days running up to the projected date of June 17th. Once the crescent moon is certified, Dhul Hijjah will officially begin, with Eid al-Adha following ten days later.

While these anticipated dates can be useful for planning purposes (news outlets have reported that the Eid al-Adha holidays could last from June 17th to June 19th, with a possible extended break including the weekend of June 15th and 16th), official confirmation is dependent on the moon sighting. Announcements are typically distributed widely by media sources and religious groups.

So, while we can’t mark our calendars in permanent ink, these estimated dates will preview future events. Watch out for the new moon and official announcements, and prepare to celebrate Eid ul Adha 2024 with your loved ones soon!
